Anthropic goes into its IPO marketing week with a smaller price tag than it had a week ago. Ahead of formal IPO marketing next week, prospective buyers are discussing a valuation of about $1.2 trillion to $1.3 trillion for the AI lab, and some are weighing a figure as low as $1.1 trillion, Bloomberg reported on Friday, citing people familiar with the matter. Before Thursday, those same buyers had been telling bankers that $1.4 trillion to $1.5 trillion looked fair. No final decision has been made, the talks are still running, and an Anthropic spokesperson declined to comment.
1. The ladder, from the last closed round to the low talk
None of the new figures is a price Anthropic has set. The company filed its public prospectus on October 26, and the filing carried no price range and no share count, so every number now circulating is investor talk, not offering terms. The only hard point in the sequence is the one underneath it: the $965B Series H round of May 2026, the last closed private mark on our Anthropic valuation chart. Everything since has been conversation, and the conversation has moved fast: talk reached as high as $2 trillion in early October, stepped down to the $1.4T to $1.5T range after the company briefed investors on its finances, and dropped again this week.
| Mark | When | Value | What it is |
|---|---|---|---|
| Series H | May 2026 | $965B | Closed primary round, reported by Bloomberg |
| Talk high | Early Oct 2026 | Up to $2T | Highest figure floated by investors |
| Buyer range | Before Thu Nov 5 | $1.4T to $1.5T | Range communicated to IPO bankers |
| Discussed range | Fri Nov 6 | $1.2T to $1.3T | Range now under discussion, per Bloomberg |
| Low talk | Fri Nov 6 | $1.1T | Low end some buyers are weighing |
Measured against the midpoints, the discussed range is down about 14 percent from the range buyers quoted before Thursday, and about 37 percent below the $2 trillion talked about in early October. The low talk, $1.1 trillion, sits 24 percent under the earlier midpoint. There is a floor under the fall, though: even $1.1 trillion is about 14 percent above the $965B mark Anthropic actually closed at in May, and the $1.2T to $1.3T range is roughly 30 percent above it. The repricing has cut the hoped-for premium, not the last real price.
2. The day that moved it
The step down followed the worst dollar day the Nasdaq 100 has ever had. On Thursday the index fell 6.4 percent and lost about $2.3 trillion of market value in a single session, a record one day loss. The selling was broader than one index: the Nasdaq Composite fell 5.5 percent and the S&P 500 fell about 4.4 percent, its worst session since April 2025, as investors reassessed how fast AI infrastructure spending turns into profit. Put the two stories on the same scale and the point lands quickly: the market erased roughly 1.8 times Anthropic's entire discussed value in one day, the day before Anthropic's buyers sat down to argue about what that value should be.

3. How to read talk versus terms
Three distinctions keep this story straight. First, talk is not terms: until Anthropic files a price range, there is no official Anthropic IPO valuation, only a negotiation happening in public. Second, a range that falls before marketing starts is not the same as a deal failing: one possibility the reporting raises is that the company and its sellers open conservatively and let strong demand lift the target, rather than defending a number the market just voted against. Third, the traded market has its own view: contracts referencing Anthropic's pre-IPO value on Hyperliquid had already fallen from an implied $1.93 trillion to about $1.58 trillion since the midterms, which still sits above the range buyers are now discussing with bankers. Our reading of the S-1 filing covers what is actually on the record underneath the talk: the revenue line, the loss, and the reserved Nasdaq symbol ANT.
4. What happens next
Formal marketing begins next week, and that is when talk has to turn into a filed price range. The numbers to watch are the range Anthropic files, where it sits against the $1.2T to $1.3T now under discussion, and whether demand at pricing pushes it back up. When ANT prices, Anthropic also leaves Tickers for the Tickerless, our board of private AI valuation charts, because it will have a ticker and a market chart of its own. Until then, the ladder above is the whole story: $965B closed, $2T hoped, $1.1T to $1.3T on the table. None of this is investment advice.
